Why is this news?

Because Stevie decided to make it news, that’s why.

This post is coming straight from the heart of not only a Canadian, but a mother. What kind of cold hearted malignant narcissist/sociopath uses his own kids as props to his failing campaign to convince us he has a normal range of feelings?
This is not a case of a warm and fuzzy family guy just trying to spend time with his daughter. (Emphasis mine)

Stephen Harper walked his nine-year-old daughter Rachel to school Tuesday in a carefully scripted photo-op designed to bolster his new warm and fuzzy image.
In the comment section, “Steve” writes:

This is news?!? Are the media staking out Dion and Layton to see how they interact with their children - to ensure they meet the appropriate "warm and fuzzy" image? What a reflection on how petty and irrelevant the media have become, if this is what passes muster as news.

Harper arranged the photo-op, using his daughter as an object to prop his image. He sought the media, wanting the exposure - specifically exposure on how he interacts with his daughter. Because he failed miserably to imitate a human being and a loving dad is not the media’s fault.

Harper is so clueless as a parent that he fails to understand that the very act of putting his child on display in a scripted scene with cameras flashing away in the child’s face shows how pathetic a parent he really is. He produces the exact opposite reaction from his intended audience.

Why? He doesn’t understand his audience and he sure as hell doesn’t understand how to be a caring, protective parent.

Steve, parents don’t use their kids as props to try to prove what good parents they are.

Most kids, I believe, realize when they are being used in such a way. And having independent feelings of their own, feelings which matter (something that seems to escape Big Daddy), those feelings are at risk.

Another comment, this one by Shannon:

Why is this news? In any case, a kiss and hug in front of the cameras wouldn't be natural, so what's the point??

Exactly, Shannon. It isn’t natural and Douchebag Daddy insults our intelligence thinking we’d actually buy into it if he managed to pull it off and look human, and rather than showing us he gives a damn about his daughter, he is showing us that even she is to be used to promote the Great Himself. Everyone exists for His Greater Good.

And again, Shannon - it’s news because Harper chose to make it news. Deliberate, coldly, right down to scripting it.

Malignat narcissists/sociopaths can’t be spontaneous. They look at what others do and try to copy what they think is socially acceptable behaviour. Having no empathy for others, they don’t know how to express it, so they imitate without understanding.

That’s why Harper screws up even something as simple as dropping his child off at school.

With news cameras rolling, a bespectacled Harper, sporting a blazer and slacks, strolled hand-in-hand with his smiling daughter amid a cluster of cameras, aides and plainclothes Mounties.

Oh, just so cozy, isn't it? Just sharing quality time with his daughter - her Rache, don't mind those aides and Mounties - just kick back with your old man. And if you don't look directly at the cameras, the flashes won't bother you much.

Harper twice leaned in as though he was going to give young Rachel a peck on the forehead, but then settled on a one-armed squeeze and two quick pats on her shoulder before she dashed off to the playground.

Yeah, even when trying to be God-Awful-King of the Fucking-Universe by winning a majority, some things are just too, too distasteful to perform, aren't they, Big Daddy?

Maybe Harper can pay some Tory staffer to dig up warm and fuzzy Disney film, plagiarize a brief script, and give it to Stevo, promising to take the fall for the Doughboy should someone recognize the scene and tell. Demented Daddy wouldn’t stoop to stealing from others to pawn off a fake image on us, now would he?

Lest any rabid defender of the Fat Guy still think this was just all a spontaneous act and the media were just vile paparazzi gunning for the poor family guy -

Harper spokesman Kory Teneycke characterized Tuesday's send-off -- which was set up in advance by the Prime Minister's Office -- as "a loving father taking his daughter to school, something he does frequently."

Hell, I have an actor friend who played the role of a computer. She still can’t work math for shit in real life.

This is news because Harper deliberately set it up to be news.

It matters because it shows us how absolutely dishonest and contriving this creature is, to coldly use his own child to help him cast a false personality for personal gain.

As a Canadian, I am disgusted.

As a mother, I am sickened.
